Sewing Skills is a collection of six individual classes:

You can take all six or pick and choose the specific classes/skills you are interested in. See below for more info on each class.

Ages – 18 and up


Cost – $50 for each class or $250 for all six classes. Check, cash, and Venmo accepted and must be paid prior to class time.

Commercial Patterns

In this class you will learn important basics for successful garment sewing. First we will take your measurements and show you how to choose your size based on the dimensions of the pattern. We will discuss body measurements vs. finished size and explore all the intricate details of a commercial pattern. You will also learn about pattern and construction markings as well as marking tools and methods.

  • Wednesdays – 5:30-7:30pm

  • Dates – Jan 14 or Mar 4

  • What to bring – A pattern that interests you, or a pattern will be provided.

  • Pre-requisite – None

Know Your Fabric

This class will explore the amazing world of textiles. You will learn about fibers vs construction, fabric anatomy and build a swatch library.

  • Wednesdays – 5:30-7:30pm

  • Dates – Jan 21, Mar 11, or Apr 29

  • What to bring – All materials will be provided.

  • Pre-requisite – None

Seam Finishes

Explore all the different seam finishes and applications in this class. Seam finishes include: zig zag, pinked, french, flat felled, bias bound and serged.

  • Wednesdays – 5:30-7:30pm

  • Dates – Jan 28, Mar 18, or May 6

  • What to bring – All materials will be provided.

  • Pre-requisite – Sewing 101 or equivalent. Must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.

Closures

Conquer your fear of installing those dreaded zippers-both conventional and invisible. We will also tackle buttons and buttonholes.

  • Wednesdays – 5:30-7:30pm

  • Dates – Feb 4, Mar 25, or May 13

  • What to bring – All materials will be provided.

  • Pre-requisite – Sewing 101 or equivalent. Must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.

Alterations

Learn how to do simple alterations! This class will go over the techniques of taking in and letting out seams, shaping garments with darts, manipulating waistbands and different methods of hemming.

  • Wednesdays – 5:30-7:30pm

  • Dates – Feb 11, Apr 8, or May 20

  • What to bring – All materials will be provided.

  • Pre-requisite – Sewing 101 or equivalent. Must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.

Patterning from an Existing Garment

Do you have a garment that you would like to copy without ripping it apart? In this class, you will learn the method of tracing and transferring a garment's seams to paper to make a pattern.

  • Wednesdays – 5:30-7:30pm

  • Dates – Feb 18, Apr 15, or May 27

  • What to bring – A simple garment you would like to pattern.

  • Pre-requisite – Commercial patterns class or equivalent. Must be familiar with basic garment pattern shapes.
